When you search for pictures of a woman on her period on Getty and other stock image sites, you tend to be greeted with the same type of photos: Women clutching their stomachs, doubled over in pain, and looking sad. New research suggests those negative online images of periods are having an impact on the way we all view menstruation. Pink Parcel then surveyed 2, women in the UK to find out how the overwhelmingly negative visual representation of periods online was affecting their own relationships to their periods. Which makes sense, really. If period shame is making us too embarrassed to talk about changes in our menstrual cycle, we could be missing out on early diagnosis of illnesses, making treatment harder.

Getty photographer and Pulitzer Prize winner John Moore has taken some of the most iconic photos to emerge from the US-Mexico border, including one of an asylum-seeking young girl crying as Border Patrol agents questioned her mother. Moore shared what it's like taking pictures of detained immigrant families at the border, many of whom were separated this summer as part of President Donald Trump's " zero tolerance " immigration policy, to Getty's blog Foto in June. After the photo was published in news outlets worldwide, US Customs and Border Protection said Yanela Sanchez and her mother Sandra Sanchez were not separated from each other.
